Where the Wild Things Play

We love going to the zoo, but honestly it had been so long I couldn't remember the last time we went!  It was finally decided that we hadn't been since Emma was two.  Which also meant that neither William nor Wescott had been there.  In February, the schools had a couple of half days and a four day weekend.  With so much time with the kids home, I thought it would be good to do something fun and out of the ordinary.  So, I called up my friend Sara and suggested that we take our kids to the zoo for one of the days.  Her kids are basically the same ages as mine and they get along well with each other.  So it was set, the sun would shine and we would visit the animals.

We made it up to the elephants as well.  A new baby elephant had been born at the zoo just a couple of months earlier, and we were all excited to see her.  It is hard to see, but she is there close to her mom.

There are benches up by the elephants, so we decided to have a picnic while we watched them walk around.

In Africa, there were a bunch of metal statues of various animals for the kids to climb and play on.

We got there just in time for hyena feeding time.  That was quite educational for the kids, let me tell you. ;)

There was also a safari Jeep.  They played on this for a while and did a good job taking turns at the wheel as well.

For this outing I opted to leave the double stroller home and just use the umbrella stroller for Wes.  It worked out great, because he could just ride and when he wanted a better view, he just pulled up on the bars and "stood" up in the stroller.  

I was a great day.  The weather was perfect and the company was awesome.  It made for a memory making weekend the kids will remember for a long time to come.
